Two years ago, religious zealots in the Middle East collected hundreds of copies of the New Testament and burned them in a public square. This was done with the support and involvement of local civic authorities.
A few months earlier, the son of a local Christian leader was nearly killed when a package bomb delivered to their home exploded in his hands. A year earlier a prominent Christian meeting house was set on fire. The same chapel had been burned down by extremists exactly 25 years earlier.
A recent gathering of the nation?s leading religious scholars endorsed the idea that the faithful are permitted to murder infidels to ?curb their evil inclinations.?
These events didn?t happen in Iran or Saudi Arabia, but in Israel. It?s not fair to hold all Israelis ? let alone all Jews -- responsible for the bigoted and violent acts of a handful of extremists. That principle should apply to people from other religions as well.
Let us take back the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free.
