Since 1977, Ageda Camargo has lived in a small three-bedroom house in La Quinta, California. In fact, at the time Ageda bought her home, the City of La Quinta didn?t exist. Now its government is trying to steal her home and put her in jail.
Code enforcement bureaucrats have decided that one of the bedrooms in that house is an illegally converted garage. They demand that Ageda ? an 83-year-old breast cancer patient -- pay a $3,000 fine and make modifications she cannot afford, or go to jail.
Ageda purchased the modified home in its present condition. The City of La Quinta has taxed it as a three-bedroom dwelling.
A local contractor has offered to perform the modifications for free. An outraged neighbor has filed a criminal complaint against city officials for abuse of the elderly. However this case turns out, those responsible for bringing it richly deserve to be horsewhipped.
Let us take back the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free.
