So, he?s dead. In fact, there is reason to believe that Osama bin Laden has been deceased for several years: A December 2001 report out of Pakistan claimed that the terrorist chieftain perished from a lung ailment.

The most recent account holds that he was killed in Islamabad, where he was living in a mansion. If true, this would suggest that bin Laden was under the protection of Pakistan?s ISI intelligence agency, which was used by the CIA to create the radical network that coalesced into al-Qaeda.

Assuming that bin Laden has departed for what will be a most unpleasant eternity, Washington has a perfect opportunity to extricate the country from the decade-long war in Afghanistan, and to end a foreign policy perfectly calibrated to accomplish Bin Laden?s fondest dream ? a civilizational war between the West and Islam.

After 9-11, bin Laden gleefully predicted that the U.S. government would drive our country into bankruptcy and destroy America?s liberties. Why are our rulers determined to turn that despicable creature into a prophet?

Let us take back the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free.
