Will Grigg?s Liberty Minute

November 7, 2008

According to historian Michael Lind
?[Barack] Obama may join Washington, Lincoln and Franklin Delano Roosevelt on the short list of American presidents who ? presided over the re-founding of the United States.?

Lind divides American history into three separate republics. The first spanned the era between Washington and the Civil War; the second lasted from Lincoln to FDR; the third began with Roosevelt?s New Deal until now. Under this model Obama would have the opportunity to inaugurate a Fourth American Republic.

Each of the periods described by Lind resulted in centralization of power in Washington. That process has reached the point where Washington essentially runs everything at home and covets the power to run everything abroad.

If Lind?s model is correct, and Obama pursues his undisguised ambition to redistribute wealth, the Fourth American Republic would be a ?people?s republic? akin to those in Cuba and North Korea.

Let us take back the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free.
