The news of Jersey City resident Joseph Colao?s fatal heart attack three years ago prompted an unsual outpouring of concern on the part of local law enforcement officers Dozens of cops called headquarters to confirm that the 45-year-old physician had died. He wasn?t just their friend and confidant, notes the Newark Star-Ledger: he was their drug connection.

For years, Colao had grown wealthy providing illegal anabolic steroids to police, prison guards, and firefighters.

The Star-Ledger reports that at least 248 officers and firefighters from 53 agencies availed themselves of Colao?s help to obtain fraudulent steroid prescriptions. Several have been sued for excessive force or civil rights violations.

"Steroid abuse by police is quite common Three years ago, a steroid and cocaine ring was discovered in a motorcycle police unit in Boston. Similar illicit operations have been uncovered in nine other states.

To the myriad reasons for ending the government?s war on drugs we should add the fact that it is often being fought by steroid-enhanced, bullying hypocrites.

Let us take back the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free.
