Sometimes it seems as if the U.S. Constitution should be published with a disclaimer, such as ?Void where prohibited by law? or ?Warning: Contents may offend the politically correct.? To judge from the disdain displayed by politicians and policymakers, the Constitution contained an expiration date of 1913 and is essentially irrelevant to contemporary concerns.
Walter Olson of the Cato Institute reports that a paperback copy of the Constitution published in 2008 by Wilder Press contains the following warning label:
?This book is a product of its time and does not reflect the same values as it would if it were written today. Parents might wish to discuss with their children how views on race, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, and interpersonal relations have changed since this book was written before allowing them to read this classic work.?
A similar caveat is attached by the publisher to its edition of the Federalist Papers, which is likewise considered unsuitable for children without appropriate, politically correct parental guidance.
Let us take back the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free.
