It?s tempting to describe a recent essay by economic analyst Kevin D.Williamson as a ?reality check,? but the problem is that if it were a check of any kind, it would bounce.
Williamson points out that by even the most optimistic calculation, the U.S. national debt as of 2008 was $70 trillion. The gross economic output of the entire world economy in 2008 was $60 trillion.
Since that time, leaders of both major political parties have collaborated in the nationalization of trillions of dollars worth of bad Wall Street debts, bailouts, and so-called stimulus packages (don?t forget that )George W. Bush offered a stimulus program of his own before Barack Obama?s election . During the same period, economic productivity has collapsed.
Policymakers in the State Department and Pentagon are worried that our metasasizing debt has become a national security issue. In fact, it?s an existential threat to our national survival ? and we?ve done it to ourselves.
Let us take back the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free.
