For roughly four years, Scott McClellan served as George W. Bush?s press secretary. In that job he was required to retail the administration?s views and assertions as if they were gospel truth.

Mr. McClellan has published a memoir entitled What Happened. That book, written from an insider?s perspective, appears to confirm much of what the administration?s critics have said regarding the deceptions used to stampede our country into an unnecessary and illegal war with Iraq.

Invited to testify before the House Judiciary Committee, McClellan was assailed by Republican Congressman Steve King of Iowa: ?From the integrity standpoint,? King hectored McClellan, ?could you not have taken some of this to the grave with you and done this country a favor??

Genuine integrity is displayed by telling the truth, rather than abetting official lies in the name of loyalty. Were Rep. King a patriot, rather than a Republican cultist, he would understand that principle.

Let us take back the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free.
