In a recent interview with a writer for The Atlantic magazine, Fidel Castro admitted ? after four decades of tyranny and the slaughter of tens of thousands ? that Cuba?s socialist economic model ?doesn?t even work for us anymore.?

Castro?s admission is not so much a confession of error, as a lament that there is nothing left to plunder in the country he and his cronies have ruined.

London?s Financial Times reported a more substantive admission from the Cuban government, which is now being run by Castro?s brother Raul. A document circulating within the upper echelons of the Cuban Communist Party predicts that the government will purge nearly a half-million state employees from the payroll next year.

Just a few weeks ago, Raul Castro gave a speech in which he said that Cuba ?will no longer be known as the only country where you do not have to work to live.?

Current trends here in the supposed land of the free suggest that the government ruling us is embracing the model Cuba is finally abandoning.

Let us take back the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free.
