For decades, observant people have known that it is futile to call the police to deal with a crime-related emergency. It?s no longer reasonable to assume that timely intervention by police would be a good thing.

Amber Owens of Indianapolis recently captured video of an incident in which paramedics were called to her apartment building to tend to a drunken, unconscious 19-year-old. Unfortunately, the police came with the paramedics, and they ?treated [Maxwell] more like a prisoner than a patient,? Owens reports.

The first priority for police in all situations is ?officer safety,? so they handcuffed the boy behind his back. Then they picked him up by the throat and dragged him bodily down the stairs and then dropped him on his head. When asked why this was done, the officers blithely lied, insisting that the unconscious young man ?was resisting.?

There is no predicament or human tragedy that can?t be made much worse through police intervention. Unfortunately, if we call paramedics for help the police often tag along as uninvited guests.

Let us take back the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free.
