In 2009, Arizona Republican Senator John McCain visited Libya to express support for the government of deranged dictator Muamar Khadafi, the international terrorist who had been embraced by the Bush administration as an ally in the so-called war on terrorism.
Just days ago, during a visit to Paris, McCain called on Washington to recognize the so-called Libyan Transitional National Council, the political wing of the rebellion, as the country?s legitimate government. He also insisted that the U.S. should arm and equip the Libyan rebels, just as it provided support ?in the Afghan struggle against the Russians.?
Of course, by arming and equipping the Afghan Muhahadeen, the CIA cultivated and nurtured the seeds that grew into the Taliban and al-Qaeda. Abdel-Hakim al-Hasidi, military leader of the Libyan rebellion, has publicly acknowledged that many of his fighters ? who include members of al-Qaeda ? fought against American troops in Iraq.
Senator McCain was among those who supported the war in Iraq because of Saddam?s purported ties to al-Qaeda. Yet he ? like much of the bipartisan establishment ? supported al-Qaeda from its inception, and continues to do so in Libya today.
Let us take back the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free.
