The Criminal Oligarchy That Rules Us November 4, 2010

The returns were barely in from the mid-term congressional election when those who really rule the country imposed a huge and potentially catastrophic tax increase. The New York branch of the criminal syndicate called the Federal Reserve System announced that it will purchase more than one trillion dollars? worth of Treasury notes.

Monetization of the debt through the creation of fiat currency is the most insidious form of taxation. It is inflicted on us by an insulated banking oligarchy that is entirely beyond accountability and pathologically indifferent to our well-being.

Ambrose Evans-Pritchard of the London Daily Telegraph warns that the Fed?s new inflationary binge will dramatically accelerate the flight from the dollar on the part of China and other foreign interests who have propped up our currency by buying Washington?s debt.

This week, the Federal Reserve oligarchs are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the meeting in Jekyll Island, Georgia that inaugurated their criminal cabal. If there were any justice, Jekyll Island would become their Alcatraz.

Pray for Gridlock November 3, 2010

In his 1966 book Tragedy and Hope, the late Georgetown history professor Carroll Quigley examined the role of electoral politics in promoting the interests of our ruling Power Elite.

While some believe that "the two parties should represent opposed ideals and policies," Quigley insisted that "the two parties should be almost identical, so that the American people can 'throw the rascals out' at any election without leading to any profound or extensive shifts in policy."

When the electorate becomes disenchanted with the party in power, Quigley continued, "it should be able to replace it, every four years if necessary, by the other party, which ... will still pursue, with new vigor, approximately the same basic policies."

Every national election is seen as a mandate for ?change,? yet somehow winds up being a validation of the status quo. The most positive result of last night?s congressional mid-term election would be a season of incurable partisan gridlock, which would at least arrest the unremitting expansion of government.

In his Iraq War memoir Hard Corps, Marine veteran Marco Martinez describes ?contact patrol? as a deployment in which ?any person encountered, armed, is to be considered hostile and killed at will.?

Police in many cities routinely conduct modified ?contact patrols? by deploying paramilitary units to intimidate a targeted population.

?We?re into saturation patrols in hot spots,? explained a SWAT leader in Fresno. ?[We] look for minor violations and do jump-outs ? [accompanied] with an ostentatious display of weaponry.?

In New Haven, Connecticut, SWAT teams raided local nightclubs, terrorizing scores of students and arresting several others on spurious or exaggerated charges.

In a similar vein, Sheriff Mearl Justice of Illinois? St. Clair County is deploying an armored surveillance vehicle called ?The Exterminator? to intimidate people suspected of such serious offenses as having untidy yards.

The authors of the Third Amendment to the U.S. Constitution would be nauseated by the docility Americans display as our police rapidly mutate into an army of occupation.

Mass Murder as a "Stimulus" Program November 1, 2010

One of the most enduring modern myths is the notion that U.S. entry into World War II saved the economy by bringing about full employment and ending the Great Depression.

In fact, real economic growth didn?t resume until after the war, when capital was freed up and regulatory burdens were lifted.

Nonetheless, peddlers of conventional wisdom continue to insist that government-supervised mass bloodshed is the most potent form of economic stimulus. Washington Post columnist David Broder recently retailed that obscene notion as a prescription for both the stricken economy and the Obama administration?s ailing presidency.

?With strong Republican support in Congress ? [Obama] can spend much of 2011 and 2012 orchestrating a showdown with [Iran],? Broder suggests. ?This will help him politically because the opposition party will be urging him on. And as tensions rise and we accelerate preparations for war, the economy will improve.?

There are terms suitable to describe someone who would endorse mass murder as a political strategy, but they shouldn?t be used in polite company.

The Russians Return to Afghanistan October 28, 2010

In July 1979, President Jimmy Carter signed a directive ordering the CIA to provide support and training to radical Islamic groups in Afghanistan. According to Zbigniew Brzezinski, Carter?s national security adviser, the intent was to foment an Islamist revolution that would provoke a Soviet military intervention.

Over the next decade, more than a million Afghans were killed by Soviet occupation forces as a result of Washington?s meddling. In the mid-1980s, the CIA-backed Muslim guerrillas were supplied with anti-aircraft missiles that were effective in combat against Soviet helicopter gunships. Once they lost their air cover, the Soviets were eventually forced to withdraw.

Now that America is fighting its former Muslim allies in Afghanistan, Washington is turning to the Russians for help. The Guardian of London reports that Russian President Dimitry Medvedev is considering a proposal that will send Russian military personnel ? and helicopter gunships ? back to Afghanistan.

Our country has been entangled in Afghan wars for more than three decades. Isn?t it time we got out?

A Texas Prosecutor Builds a Praetorian Guard: Preview of Things to Come? October 27, 2010

John Roach, the aptly named District Attorney for Collin County, Texas, has arranged to use money from asset forfeiture to fund his own specialized SWAT-style courthouse security team.

Asset forfeiture is the practice of seizing money and other property from people suspected of various crimes, usually involving narcotics. In many instances the property itself is found ?guilty? of an offense, whether or not its owner is ever convicted of a crime or even formally charged with one.

Many local governments have made out quite well through this kind of officially sanctioned theft. In fact, some economically devastated Detroit suburbs have seen property seizures by police skyrocket even as the crime rate remains relatively stable.

Mr. Roach has introduced a new wrinkle to this racket by diverting $25,000 in forfeiture funds to equip a force of so-called DA investigators with high-powered rifles, shotguns, and body armor.

This permitted him to circumvent the County Commission and create his own little Praetorian Guard. Chances are pretty good other prosecutors will follow his example.

Our Parasitic Plutocracy October 25, 2010

Before being nominated for the post of deputy secretary of state, Thomas R. Nides was paid more than $8 million in salary and bonuses as chief operating officer for the Wall Street investment bank Morgan Stanley. Every penny of that bounty was redirected from taxpayers by way of the federal bank bailout.

The official he would replace, Jacob Lew, has been reassigned to serve as the Obama administration?s federal budget chief. Before going into what is commonly called ?public service,? Mr. Lew was an employee of Citigroup, where he received his own $1 million taxpayer-supplied bailout bonus.

Massachusetts Democrat Barney Frank, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, has disclosed significant campaign contributions from financial institutions that benefitted from the TARP bailout. A political action committee created by General Motors, which was nationalized at taxpayer expense, has converted hundreds of thousands of bailout dollars into campaign contributions.

Whichever party seizes the advantage in the coming mid-term election, we will still be ruled by a parasitic plutocracy.

Another Needless Drug War Casualty October 22, 2010

Todd Blair of Roy, Utah had a relatively short and troubled life, which ended shortly before 10 PM on September 16.

Blair was in the basement of his home when he heard footsteps and the voices of strangers at the back door. Thinking that he was being robbed, Blair grabbed a golf club and went upstairs to confront the intruders.

The invaders were police officers from the Weber-Morgan Narcotics Strike Force. On the basis of an anonymous tip the police had obtained a no-knock search warrant for methamphetamine and heroin. After gunning down Blair the officers were able to scour up less than half an ounce of marijuana.

Had Blair lived in Portugal, where all drugs were decriminalized ten years ago, he would have been offered treatment for his addiction, rather than being slaughtered in his own home. What kind of country can countenance a policy that frequently results in the needless death of flawed but harmless people?

Hands-On Police Accountability October 21, 2010

Last July, a speed trap in Byrnes Mill, Missouri snagged Rich Stephens, a former professional football player. Stephens was arrested by two officers, one of whom handcuffed and kicked him. Stephens was jailed, but not charged with a crime. He eventually had to pay $160 to retrieve his pickup truck from an impound lot.

Rather than filing a formal complaint that would be either ignored or dismissed after a perfunctory inquiry, Stephens is seeking more tangible redress: He has challenged his police assailant, Officer Tim Walker, to a refereed mixed martial arts match, with the proceeds going to charity. The challenge came in the form of a full-page ad bought by Stephens, as well as a television news interview and a sign posted on his pickup truck.

Byrnes Mill Chief of Police Ed Locke considers Stephens? challenge to Officer Walker as a threat to ?officer safety.? Of course, Walker would be permitted to fight back, which isn?t the case for people needlessly abused by bullies in blue.

Is Your County Sheriff a Federal Quisling? October 20, 2010

In , Federalist essay 45 James Madison famously pointed out that the ?numerous and indefinite? powers reserved to states include all matters pertaining to ?internal order? ? or, as we would put it, police powers. The federal government has no legitimate role in law enforcement within individual states.

The county Sheriff has the responsibility to protect the lives and property of those living within that jurisdiction. This includes the authority to interpose on behalf of citizens when their liberties are threatened by federal officials exceeding their constitutional mandate.

Through subsidies and other illicit inducements, the federal government has enticed many sheriffs to become assets of the central government, rather than defenders of the constituents who elected them. One such Quisling is Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca, who promises to enforce federal marijuana laws even if the substance is legalized state-wide through Proposition 19.

Federally abetted lawlessness on the part of local law enforcement agencies is a far deadlier threat than marijuana consumption.
